SSTCi's "Tribute to America's Veterans" Concert" A Huge Success

Performers from the youth dance programs, Future Shock and Mighty Shock performed at the 3rd Annual “Tribute to America’s Veterans” Concert, held on Thursday, November 11, 2010 at 7 pm. at the Silver Spring Civic Building at Veterans Plaza.

The “Tribute” Concert was sponsored by the Montgomery County Commission on Veterans Affairs, in partnership with the Silver Spring Town Center, Inc., Round House Theatre, and the Maryland Youth Ballet.

In addition to Mighty Shock and Future Shock, the “Tribute to America’s Veterans” concert featured dance performances by the Maryland Youth Ballet, Contradiction Dance and musical performances by Silver Spring’s Jonny Grave and the jazz/blues fusion group, C. Henry Woods Troupe, featuring the Jazz Bombers.





Our special guest was Representative Chris Van Hollen of Maryland’s 8th Congressional District who made Veterans Day remarks and presented a certificate of recognition from County Executive Isiah Leggett to Hospital Corpsman Indira Kozak, currently serving in the U.S. Navy. Maryland State Delegate Tom Hucker presented a proclamation from the State to the Montgomery County Commission on Veterans Affairs.

Silver Spring Town Center, Inc. at Discovery's Inaugural the first-ever "Discovery Impact: Creating Change"

The Silver Spring Town Center, Inc. was selected as one of our Silver Spring community's nonprofit organizations to join the inaugural program of Discovery Communication's "Creating Change" program.

During the marathon probono event, 200 of the creative minds that support Discovery's networks and businesses year-round will lend their expertise to nonprofits, like SSTCi< in need of marketing, communications and creative services — Stay in touch on Discovery Blog, through @DiscoveryComm and the #ourimpact hashtag on Twitter.

Discovery will assist Silver Spring Town Center, Inc. in developing a state-of-the-art website to help promote our mission of developing community-based arts & entertainment program for the new Silver Spring Civic Building and Veterans Plaza.

Mighty Shock and Future Shock to Perform at Silver Spring Veterans Concert, November 11, 2010

Performers from the youth dance programs, Future Shock and Might Shock will perform at the 3rd Annual “Tribute to America’s Veterans” Concert to be held on Thursday, November 11, 2010 at 7 pm. at the Silver Spring Civic Building at Veterans Plaza.

The “Tribute” Concert is sponsored by the Montgomery County Commission on Veterans Affairs, in partnership with the Silver Spring Town Center, Inc., Round House Theatre, and the Maryland Youth Ballet.

In addition to Mighty Shock and Future Shock, the “Tribute to America’s Veterans” concert will feature dance performances by the Maryland Youth Ballet, Contradiction Dance amd musical performances by Silver Spring’s Jonny Grave and the jazz/blues fusion group, C. Henry Woods Troupe, featuring the Jazz Bombers.


The evening program will also feature Representative Chris Van Hollen of Maryland’s 8th Congressional District who will make Veterans Day remarks and present certificates of recognition to two Montgomery County residents currently serving in the U.S. Navy.

Future Shock DC is a youth program under the international dance program Culture Shock. Under the artistic direction of Nathalie Blanco and Darius Gaymon, this team has been in effect for only 5 years. They have made their mark in the DC area, the nation, and abroad. Our dancers consist of youth from throughout the metro DC area and come from very different backgrounds and demographics. They have been featured on the Gatorade webisode, Leave it on the Floor, for the inauguration. They recently went to Barcelona to represent the US in the Barcelona Dance Awards and came home with first place out of 277 dance teams. Our dancers are required to maintain a 3.0+ GPA in order to participate.

Mighty Shock is a youth program under the international dance program Culture Shock. Under the artistic direction of Jasmine Artis, this team has been in effect for only 2.5 years. They have made their mark in the DC area, the nation, and abroad. Our dancers consist of youth from throughout the metro DC area and come from very different backgrounds and demographics. They have opened for several artists such as Queen Latifah, Sheila E, and Wyclef Juan. They recently went to Barcelona to represent the US in the Barcelona Dance Awards and came home with second place out of 277 dance teams.

A Very Special Veterans Day Concert - Thursday, November 11, 2010 at the Silver Spring Civic Building

Please join us for a very special Veterans Day concert at the Silver Spring Civic Building. This free concert is open to all in the Montgomery County community.

The Montgomery County Commission on Veterans Affairs, in partnership with the Silver Spring Town Center, Inc., Round House Theatre, and the Maryland Youth Ballet is pleased to present the third annual “A Tribute to America’s Veterans” concert on Thursday, November 11, 2010 at 7 pm at the Silver Spring Civic Building at Veterans Plaza in Silver Spring.

The “Tribute to America’s Veterans” concert will feature dance performances by the Maryland Youth Ballet, Contradiction Dance and the youth groups, Might Shock and Future Shock. In addition, there will be musical performances by Silver Spring’s Jonny Grave and the jazz/blues fusion group, C. Henry Woods Troupe, featuring the Jazz Bombers.

Silver Spring Town Center, Inc. Announces "Opening Day" Celebration - July 8, 2010












The Silver Spring Town Center, Inc. is pleased to announce the line-up for its “Opening Day” production at the new Silver Spring Civic Building at One Veterans Plaza. Our performances begin at 1:30 pm at the Civic Building’s “Portico.”

On July 8th at 6:30 pm, Montgomery County Executive Ike Leggett will preside over a inaugural ceremony ribbon cutting for the new building located at the intersection of Fenton Street and Ellsworth Drive in downtown Silver Spring. Following the ribbon cutting ceremony, the public is invited to come inside the building and experience the wonderful new community space. The festivities continue with the first "Silver Spring Swings Summer Concert" featuring a performance by the Fabulous Bel Airs 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

The Silver Spring Town Center, Inc.’s (SSTCi) “Opening Day” celebration will feature local dancers, dramatic performers, choral groups, and jazz, blues, and latin musicians from early afternoon until the beginning of the official inaugural program for the new building. We welcome the participation and support of Round House Theatre as co-producers of this event.

Alan Bowser of Silver Spring is Executive Producer of the SSTCi’s “Opening Day” celebration. “We are enormously gratified at the strong community support that we have for our opening day program. Thanks to all of our Silver Spring neighbors and the non-profit groups that have generously offered their time and support for this historic program. The Silver Spring Civic Building will be our community’s “living room, so this is a great way to celebrate its opening,” said Bowser.

The Silver Spring Town Center, Inc. is a community non-profit organization to provide arts & entertainment programming for the Silver Spring Civic Building at One Veterans Plaza. SSTCi's recent productions have included the Silver Spring Blues Festival at Downtown Silver Spring and the annual Tribute to Veterans Concert.

Parking is available at the Town Square Garage on Ellsworth Drive. The Silver Spring Metro is three blocks away.
